Robert Mendel
SENIOR ENGINEER
Robert is a Senior Engineer at Dova, where he leads AI research, MLOps, and software engineering to develop intelligent tools that support clinical decision-making in gastroenterology. At Dova, he is the lead engineer behind the company’s Barrett’s Esophagus platform—a patented and globally validated technology that detects and differentiates precancerous tissue and assesses depth of invasion. Recognized by leading GI societies (UEG, ESGE), the platform received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation in December 2023.
As part of his PhD research, Robert also developed a decision support tool for ESD/POEM procedures, which demonstrated improved clinician reaction times in pre-clinical validation. He has published several novel approaches in semi- and self-supervised learning, contributing to the field of data-efficient AI through top-tier journals and conferences. Robert holds a Master of Science in Computer Science and brings a research-driven, systems-level approach to building technologies that improve care.
